Welcome to our bedroom! It’s one of my absolute favorite spots in the house—so chill, modern, and cozy all at once. There’s something about lighting a few candles and unwinding after a long day that just feels perfect here.
When we started planning this space, we knew we were renting, so we kept everything temporary and non-permanent. Luckily, the existing paint and carpet were neutral, so we didn’t have to make big changes. Instead, we focused on adding decor that could easily move with us when we inevitably relocate. Turns out, we’re moving again next month, so it seems like we finished this room just in time!
We also decided to turn this room into both a master bedroom and a nursery nook for our newborn. Our other kids slept with us for the first year, so this setup felt like the best option for our family. The goal was to avoid making the space feel overly "babyish" while still incorporating some fun elements for our little one. Finding that balance was important to us.

OUR MASTER BEDROOM & NURSERY NOOK
We followed the inspiration board I created for this room, but made a few tweaks. For example, we chose three portable ottomans instead of one large bench at the foot of the bed. They’re easier for the kids to move around, whether it’s for storytime or helping out at the changing table. Plus, it keeps things flexible as our family grows. We also stayed within budget by swapping out a few items and avoiding a traditional bedding set. Instead, we mixed blankets and pillows, including some from my hospital bag. In our climate, it works great.
One thing I’m really excited about in our new place is the better natural light in the master bedroom. Our current room sometimes feels a bit cave-like, especially in that nursery nook where there’s no window. But that lack of light gave us plenty of wall space to work with.
The adorable knit bird collection and the yellow/white chevron blanket are from Bellus Threads. For the mobile, I simply hung the bird pieces from a stick the kids found in the yard and added a touch of color with yarn.
I keep some of my favorite candles from Anthropologie nearby, along with this incredible hand cream and a new lip balm I got from Birchbox for nighttime use.
One of the less "babyish" pieces in the room is this vintage mannequin we picked up at a garage sale last year. It’s become such a cool addition to our space—right now, it holds most of my necklaces.
We wanted a cute and functional way to display some of Skylar’s outfits, so my husband built a simple solution using an IKEA shelf and a $4 curtain rod. It’s one of my favorite DIY projects in the room—it only cost under $20!
