Yesterday, I mentioned that I'd been "failing forward," but truthfully, it's been more than just a one-off—it's been a week of learning through trial and error. Most days are like the ones I write about—full of energy, chaos, and the simple joy of living life alongside my little ones. It’s a beautiful reminder of how precious each moment is.
But this week? Not exactly picture-perfect. By 10 AM on Monday, I was already at my wit's end trying to manage my grumpy brood. We've been knee-deep in spring cleaning—closets, cupboards, bins, and drawers everywhere. There were toys to sort, clothes to wash, and things to donate, which made navigating our home feel like walking through a maze. By the time the clutter cleared, the week had already started rough—and it wasn't just me. Brayden had a bit of an issue with his outfits, somehow managing to soil them three times this week. Meanwhile, Aliyah was dealing with an ear/sinus/eye infection that I didn't fully realize was as serious as it was until later in the week.
Then, out of nowhere, my dad called to invite us all to Ikea. A lightbulb went off—I needed to get the kids out of the house. I needed a break, too. So, we piled into the car, even forgetting the snacks and water on the counter. (Note to self: become the mom who remembers everything.)
Thankfully, once we got there, the kids had a blast. My parents joined us, and the kids soaked up all the attention from their grandparents. Watching my parents interact with my children always fills my heart with warmth—it's such a beautiful thing to see.
Even better? I found some cute curtains for the house, and we didn’t even stop for coffee on the way back. (Thanks, Dad!)
By the end of the day, I felt like we'd redeemed ourselves. And speaking of redemption, I decided to try my hand at making Ivory Hut’s Nutella Chip Cookies using homemade Nutella chips. Now, I’ll admit, I’ve never been great at melting chocolate chips properly without a double boiler. But you know what? Inspiration doesn’t come without experimentation. So, I rolled up my sleeves, tied my hair back, and slipped into my favorite red apron. I was ready for a romantic date with the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the apron couldn’t save my culinary skills. While the cookies tasted amazing, the texture of my Nutella mixture wasn’t quite right. Failing? I was starting to think so. But instead of giving up, I decided to turn my “almost-there†mixture into chunky bits instead of delicate chips.
It turns out, failing forward is possible. And these cookies? They were delicious—so good that they were definitely worth breaking my diet for. The secret to their success? Browning the butter to give it that rich, nutty flavor. Plus, having an eager little helper in the kitchen made the experience even sweeter.
In the end, I learned that sometimes, the best moments come from embracing imperfection. Whether it’s tidying up a messy house or attempting a new recipe, life is all about finding joy in the journey.
