Management methods for cucumber grafted seedlings

After grafting, place the seedlings into a small arch-shaped greenhouse that has already been set up. Water the floor of the greenhouse to increase humidity and cover the structure with plastic film. For the first three days, provide shade using newspapers, shade nets, or non-woven fabric. Maintain daytime temperatures around 25°C and nighttime temperatures at 15°C, while keeping the air humidity above 95% to ensure optimal healing conditions. Starting from day four, gradually introduce direct sunlight, increasing both light intensity and duration. Begin ventilating the greenhouse slightly to lower temperature and humidity. Adjust the temperature to between 22-24°C during the day and 13-15°C at night, with air humidity maintained at 70%-80%. By days seven and eight, remove the arch shelter and transition to regular plant care. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged throughout the process. Regularly remove any shoots that appear on the rootstock, as they can compete with the grafted part and weaken the plant’s growth. About 10-12 days after grafting, cut the stem below the grafting site on the cucumber plant. This helps promote stronger growth of the grafted portion. To support wound healing, spray the seedlings with Fengchansu diluted to 600 times within the first 10 days. Additionally, apply 75% chlorothalonil at a 500-fold dilution on the third and ninth days after grafting to prevent disease infections. The grafted seedlings can be transplanted into the field 25 to 35 days after grafting. Be careful not to plant them too deep, as this may cause the graft union to come into contact with the soil, increasing the risk of disease. Also, avoid allowing adventitious roots from the cucumber stem to develop in the soil, as this could lead to infection and reduce the effectiveness of the grafting process.
