Symptoms and prevention methods of tumor mushroom

Mushroom tumors, often referred to as "mushroom-like tumors," typically appear after the first harvest and prevent the formation of the second flush. During their development, these tumor masses originate from within the cultivation bag, gradually growing upward and appearing as small objects—similar in size to broad beans or large eggs. The surface of the tumor is covered with fine, nodular particles. Each particle has a smooth texture, irregular shape, and varies in size. Some are individual, while others merge together. In the early stages, they are relatively hard, but once the temperature rises above 18°C, they begin to decay slowly. These tumors are difficult to detect during the initial growth phase, and can only be identified by exposing the surface of the medium or by swelling the cultivation bag during the mid-stage. The main cause of these tumor-like formations is improper handling during the bagging or transportation process, which may lead to internal voids or cracks in the bags. In these gaps, the medium provides sufficient nutrients, proper temperature, and humidity, allowing the fruiting body primordia to develop inside the bag. However, since other conditions within the gap are not suitable for normal fruiting body growth, the primordia are forced to regenerate repeatedly in these spaces. Over time, this leads to the formation of larger tumor masses. Flammulina mushroom tumors absorb a significant amount of nutrients and water during the production process. However, they are hard to detect in the early stages. As the medium progresses, the tumor grows rapidly, causing the fruiting bodies on the surface of the cultivation bag to grow abnormally and eventually shrink. Even if some needle-like mushrooms manage to develop, their growth is extremely slow, and their structure remains thin and weak. Once the tumor appears, no normal fruiting bodies can form. To prevent and control this issue, it's essential to ensure that the culture material is evenly and tightly packed when filling the bags. During transportation and unloading, care should be taken to avoid rough handling or stacking, which can cause internal damage to the bags. Additionally, timely and scientific management practices should be implemented to promote rapid and healthy fruiting body development.
