First, the causes of plowing problems:
(1) Before plowing, the field was not properly cleaned, leaving debris or obstacles that could interfere with the plow's movement.
(2) During the plowing process, the operator failed to address the plow dragging issue promptly, leading to inefficiency and potential damage.
(3) The soil was too hard, or there was a thick layer of grass roots, making it difficult for the plowshare to penetrate into the ground effectively.
(4) The plow blade was worn out or had insufficient vertical clearance at the blade tip, reducing its ability to cut through the soil smoothly.
(5) The plow shaft was severely bent, which affected the overall stability and performance of the plow during operation.
(6) The plow depth was improperly adjusted, and the plow itself was tilted, causing uneven or ineffective plowing.
Second, the solutions to these issues:
1. Before starting the plowing operation, the crew should thoroughly clear the field of any debris, rocks, or vegetation that might hinder the plow’s movement. If dragging is detected during plowing, it must be addressed immediately to avoid further complications.
2. Regular maintenance and proper adjustment of the plow components are essential. This includes checking and repairing the plowshare, blade, lifting mechanisms, and ensuring the plow is in good working condition. The plowshare should be sharpened regularly, and the three key clearances—the blade clearance, vertical clearance, and horizontal clearance—should be maintained within the recommended ranges: 8–10 cm for blade clearance, 10–15 cm for vertical clearance, and 8–10 cm for horizontal clearance. These settings help ensure efficient soil cutting and stable plowing performance.
3. To prevent the plow from getting stuck when turning, especially in tight areas, it’s advisable to first plow along the edges of the field, flipping the soil outward before proceeding with the main plowing operation.
4. In cases where the soil is very hard and difficult to penetrate, using an additional plow or preparing the ground beforehand can help soften the soil, allowing the plowshare to enter more easily and reduce the length of un-plowed ground.
By following these steps, farmers can significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their plowing operations, ensuring better soil preparation and long-term productivity of the land.
