Sun Zhonghai is a 47-year-old male professor and doctoral supervisor, currently serving as a chief expert in fruit tree research at the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences. With extensive experience in citrus research and agricultural development, he has played a significant role in advancing the field of horticulture in China.
Before joining the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Sun held several key positions, including Executive Deputy Director of the Institute of Citrus Research at Huazhong Agricultural University, Deputy Director of the National Citrus Breeding Center, and Director of the National Citrus Primary Spike. He also served as Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Horticultural Plant Biology under the Ministry of Education. In addition, he is currently the Deputy Director of the Hubei Citrus Engineering Center, where he continues to contribute to the development of citrus cultivation techniques and policies.
Sun Zhonghai is actively involved in professional organizations and advisory roles. He serves as Vice President of the Chinese Citrus Society and as Director of the Hubei Citrus Society. Furthermore, he acts as a scientific advisor for Honghe Prefecture in Yunnan Province and Ganzhou City in Jiangxi Province. His expertise is sought by numerous counties and cities across major citrus-producing regions in China, where he provides guidance on agricultural practices and technological advancements.
He is also a respected judge for various national and provincial science and technology projects, including those under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Education. Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other provincial funding programs such as those in Hubei, Hebei, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang provinces.
Throughout his career, Sun Zhonghai has focused on citrus stress resistance research, fruit tree selection, and breeding. His work has laid a solid foundation for the structural adjustment of citrus varieties in China. He has developed a comprehensive system for pollution-free, high-quality, and efficient citrus cultivation, which has been successfully implemented and scaled up in large areas such as Ganzhou, Jiangxi, and Honghe, Yunnan. His contributions have significantly improved the sustainability and productivity of citrus farming in these regions.
