Cage culture grouper stocking size and density

The fish species selected should be healthy, disease-free, and injury-free, with a strong physique and normal appearance. They can be either wild-caught fry or artificially bred seedlings collected from natural marine environments. The mesh size of the netting used in the cages depends on the size of the fish. For fish weighing more than 0.25 kg, a 4 to 4.5 cm mesh is recommended. Fish weighing 0.25 kg or less should be raised in 2.5 to 3 cm mesh nets, while smaller fish under 10 cm in length require a finer 0.8 cm mesh. When rearing groupers, the stocking density should be around 60-70 fish per cubic meter at a water temperature of 25°C. In practical farming, it's common to raise about 500 fish in a 3m x 3m x 3m cage. Studies have shown that stocking densities of 15, 30, and 60 fish per cubic meter result in similar growth rates. However, maintaining a moderate density helps improve both the efficiency and overall yield of the cage system. It’s important to monitor water quality and oxygen levels closely, especially when keeping higher numbers of fish, to ensure optimal health and growth.
