In winter and spring, the weather is cold, and there's a shortage of fresh green feed. Rural farmers often rely on wheat straw and other crop residues as cattle fodder. However, these forages are low in quality and not very palatable. As a result, cattle may lose their appetite over time, leading to weight loss, poor health, and difficulty in preparing for the upcoming spring plowing season. To improve the condition of the cattle during this period, it's important not only to provide adequate warmth and better-quality feed but also to use additional methods to help them gain weight and stay healthy.
One effective method involves cooking some soybeans in a pan until soft, then crushing them. Next, take an equal amount of malt, hawthorn, Codonopsis (often referred to as "Divine Comedy" in some regions), Bai Ren (a type of medicinal root), Suanzaoren (Chinese date seed), Atractylodes, dried ginger, cinnamon, and fennel. The quantities can be adjusted slightly depending on availability. Mix all the herbs together and grind them into a fine powder. Then combine the soybean powder with black soybean powder and the herbal mixture in a ratio of 3:1:1. When feeding the cattle, sprinkle this herbal mix onto their forage.
This blend not only gives the feed a pleasant aroma, encouraging the cattle to eat more, but also supports digestion, reduces inflammation, helps protect against cold, and stabilizes their mood. After consuming this mixture, the cattle tend to gain weight faster and suffer from fewer illnesses, which greatly benefits their overall growth and well-being. With improved health and strength, the cattle will be better prepared to handle the demanding tasks of spring plowing.
