Summer rice pest control

Due to the hot and humid summer weather, rice is highly susceptible to moisture, mold, and pests. To keep your rice fresh and safe for longer, here are some effective storage methods that families can try: First, the anaerobic preservation method: Start by spreading the rice in a well-ventilated area to dry it out—avoid direct sunlight. Once it's dry, place the rice into a non-toxic, low-permeability plastic bag, filling it appropriately without overstuffing. Seal the bag tightly and store it in a cool, dry place. This method helps reduce oxygen exposure, which prevents spoilage and insect infestation. Second, the pepper preservation technique: Peppers act as a natural insect repellent and have an aromatic scent that deters pests. To use this method, place 20–30 whole peppers in a pot with enough water to moisten them slightly. Heat the pot over low heat until the pepper aroma is released, then remove it from the flame. Let the peppers dry, and then place them inside a cloth or mesh bag. Put this bag in the rice container, placing it at the top, middle, and bottom for maximum coverage. This helps keep insects away naturally. Third, the weed ash moisture control method: Layer the bottom of your rice container with a thin layer of grass ash (preferably placed in a gauze bag) to absorb excess moisture. Then add the dried rice on top, making sure the container is tightly sealed. Store it in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. The ash helps regulate humidity, preventing mold growth and keeping the rice fresh. Fourth, the kelp pest control method: Dried kelp has strong moisture-absorbing properties and can also help kill insects and prevent mold. Mix the rice with kelp in a ratio of 100:1. After about 10 days, remove the kelp, dry it thoroughly, and mix it back into the rice. Repeat this process several times to maintain freshness and prevent pests effectively. By using these traditional and natural methods, you can protect your rice from damage without relying on chemical preservatives. These techniques not only extend the shelf life of your rice but also ensure it remains safe and nutritious for your family.
