10 Registration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Varieties in Europe in Response to New EU Herbs Regulations

Business Club News, February 10 In response to the “European Herbal Drugs Act” which came into effect in April of this year, the Ministry of Commerce and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products have selected three Chinese medicines from Lanzhou Foci, Tong Ren Tang and Guangzhou Qixing. The company's 10 varieties of Chinese medicine are registered in the European Union.

Exports of Chinese medicine products have always been restricted in the EU. In 2004, the European Union's “Regulations on Traditional Plant Drugs Registration Procedures” allowed China herbal products to be sold for seven years. The sales period ended on March 31, 2011. During this period, the use of traditional herbs to simplify the application process is allowed to obtain the legal status of the medicine.

In order to cope with this situation, China has selected three pharmaceutical companies such as Foci, and applied for registration in the European Union in early December last year. The Provincial Department of Commerce organizes and coordinates relevant units to take active actions, propose specific measures and apply for registration programs. At present, Foci's "Concentrated Angelica Pills" has entered the sprint phase in the EU's traditional herbal medicine registration application. Earlier this month, Foci Pharmaceuticals officially submitted a registration application to the Swedish National Drug Administration.
