Spring tea prices are expected to increase by up to 10% this year

Before the Spring Festival, tea prices did not follow the rise in prices of rice, oil, and meat. On the contrary, many tea sellers used the opportunity to spend before the Spring Festival and cut prices to run.

On the 16th, the reporter saw in Xiaguan Tea City and Qinhuai Tea Market, the larger tea wholesale markets in Nanjing, that many tea shops had signs of “clearing goods at the end of the year”, and at a glance, the tea merchants were increasing. To sell the spring tea in 2010, in an attempt to withdraw funds, vacate inventory, and prepare for the launch of the new tea after the Spring Festival.

The reporter learned from the old tea shop in Delong tea that after the winter, the Nanjing tea market entered a “hibernation period”. Not only did sales shrink, but it also did not touch the “light” price of agricultural and sideline products. A listing price was 500 yuan. Box of high-altitude ecological tea, down to 90 yuan/box is also lacking. At present, the mainstream varieties of Biluochun and Cuibai are currently on the market. The middle wholesale price is concentrated at RMB 120-180/kg, which is the same as last year. As long as the low-end Maojian 15 yuan / kg, or even less than the price of a pound of pork.

Why did this happen? The tea trader Wu Wensheng told reporters that the end of the year was the traditional off-season. Most tea buyers were patrons and were not good; secondly, the green tea sold in the market was mostly spring 2010 tea. The price at the time of purchase has not yet risen; the inventory of high-grade tea at the price of 300 yuan/kg at hand is not much, and the low-grade tea has not risen at 5-6 yuan/kg.

However, the sale price of “Tieguanyin”, which is mainly played with autumn tea, has already revealed the signs of price increase. In the past, the price of the product was less than RMB 100/kg. It has been difficult to see the price of mainstream products in the market concentrated at RMB 150-200/kg. Compared with last year, there was an increase of 10-15%. It was just Nanjing people who spoke green tea and Tieguanyin was not the mainstream variety in the market. Therefore, prices remained relatively stable overall.

Many tea traders stated that they are in contact with tea production bases. Industry insiders expect that when new tea is launched in 2011, low-priced new teas with prices below 100 yuan/kg will disappear in the market. It is expected that the overall price of new tea will increase by at least 5%-10%.
