Cows should pay attention when feeding silage

After 45 days of fermentation, silage that has entered the pit has become a soft, savory, nutritious, high quality silage. When feeding silage to dairy cows, the following issues should be noted.

Feeding quantity

For milk cows with a body weight of 500 kilograms and a daily milk output of 25 kg or more, 25 kg of silage and 5 kg of hay can be fed daily. For dairy cows with a daily milk output of more than 30 kg, 30 kg of silage and 8 kg of hay can be fed. For dairy cows with a body weight of 350-400 kg and a milk yield of 20 kg per day, 20 kg of silage and 5-8 kg of hay can be fed. For dairy cows with a body weight of 350 kg and a daily milk yield of 15 to 20 kg, 15 to 20 kg of silage and 8 to 10 kg of hay can be fed. For dairy cows whose daily milk production is under 15 kg, 15 kg of silage and 10-12 kg of hay can be fed. Cows should stop feeding silage 15 days before and 15 days after birth. For dry-dairy cows, 10 to 15 kg of silage can be fed daily to appropriate amount of hay. The amount of silage fed to the breeding cattle is preferably controlled at 5 to 10 kg. For young animals, they should be fed little or no.

Feeding method

When feeding, it should be fed less in the early stage, and then gradually increase to sufficient quantity to allow the cow to have an adaptation process. Must not be fed at one time in sufficient quantity, resulting in too much silage in the rumen of the dairy cow and high acidity, which affects the normal feeding and milk production performance of the cow. Baking soda should be added to the cows in time. When the silage is fed, the pH in the rumen of the cows is reduced and acidosis can easily occur. It can add 1.5% baking soda to the concentrated feed to promote gastric peristalsis, neutralize acidic substances in the rumen, increase feed intake, increase digestibility, and increase milk production. Each time the silage fed is mixed with the hay, the cows should be fed again to avoid picking the food. Conditional dairy cows can fully feed the concentrate, silage and hay to produce a fully mixed diet for the dairy cows. Silage or other roughage feeds are best fed 3 or 4 times a day to increase the number of ruminants and promote digestion and utilization of feed by microorganisms. There are many dairy cows in the countryside who only feed twice a day, which is extremely unscientific. The consequences are:

First, it increases the burden on rumen of dairy cows, affects the number and time of normal rumination of dairy cows, reduces the conversion rate of feed, and can easily cause diseases of cow's foregut stomach in the long run.

Second, it affects the digestive rate of dairy cows and causes a decline in the milk fat rate of milk production. Frozen silage cannot be fed to cows, otherwise it is easy to cause miscarriage in pregnant cattle.

Access method

It is advisable to take one time every day and in the afternoon. The thickness of silage to be taken each time should be no less than 10 cm to ensure that the silage is fresh, the palatability is good, the nutrient loss is minimized, and the best effect of feeding silage is achieved. . Remove the silage can not be exposed to sunlight, do not bulk heap, scattered, it is best to use bags, placed in the cow house in the shade. After each withdrawal, the silage in the pit shall be re-drilled and then tightly sealed with a plastic cloth.

Precautions

If diarrhea is found in the dairy cows during feeding, reduce or stop the feed immediately. Check whether mildew is mixed in the silage or cause diarrhea due to other diseases. Continue feeding after the cows return to normal. Every day, clear the feeding trough, especially at the dead end, clean up the degraded silage and add fresh silage.

After silage is fed, the amount of concentrate feed should be reduced as appropriate, depending on the amount of milk produced by the dairy cow and the degree of lye, but it should not be reduced too much or too quickly. Silage pits should be strictly protected against rodents and some diseases should be passed on to cows.
