The advantages of weaning piglet wet feeding and its feeding technology

Wet feed is a mixture of regular dry feed and liquid carrier (water, food processing liquid by-products, etc.) in a certain proportion. Feeding piglets with hot water in rural areas followed by feeding piglets or feeding pigs with muddy water is a typical example of a wet feed application. At present, as weaning days of weaners continue to shorten, weaning stress in piglets, especially food stress, increases. Using wet feed can effectively reduce weaning stress and promote normal growth and development of piglets after weaning. (I) Advantages of Wet Feeding for Weanling Piglets (1) It can maintain a healthy digestive environment after weaning and prevent diarrhea and other diseases. Direct feeding of dry feeds after weaning of piglets results in atrophy of the small intestine and darkening of the crypts. This affects the digestion and absorption of nutrients in the digestive tract and causes gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea. The physical form of wet feed is similar to that of breast milk, which can reduce the adverse effects of feed morphological changes on the structure and function of the digestive tract. (2) It can increase feed intake and water intake of piglets. Just-weaned piglets have not yet fully learned to eat and drink independently, and are often unable to fully adapt to dry feed. The shape of the wet feed is similar to that of breast milk, which not only facilitates the feeding of piglets, but also promotes the development of the gastrointestinal tract of piglets and increases the volume of digestive tract. (3) Increased daily gain and feed efficiency of weaned piglets. Because wet feeds on the one hand maintain the health status of weaned piglets, on the other hand, increase feed intake and gastrointestinal tract digestion and absorption functions, it can increase the growth rate and feed efficiency of weaned piglets. (4) Not only save water, but also reduce feed dust. The water supply to the piglet with a drinking fountain is very costly, such as dripping water, leaking water, etc. Water is supplied through the trough, and the remaining water needs to be drained before each feeding. This wastes a lot. In the case of wet feeding, the piglets also consume a lot of water while eating, which reduces the waste of drinking water. In addition, the decrease of dust after the feed is wetted not only reduces the feed waste, but also reduces the pig's respiratory disease caused by feed dust. (2) Preparation of Wet Feed for Weanling Piglets (1) The manual method is to feed the weaned pigs with dry feed and water directly in small and medium-sized barrels or troughs. This method of manual blending is suitable for rural areas. Small groups feeding or free range. In the cold season, it is better to heat the water in advance. (2) Mechanical methods There are already wet and dry mechanical products such as dry and wet feeders or feed water mixing tanks. Mechanized wet feeding facilities can save manpower, reduce feed wastage, improve feed utilization rate, and can increase the feeding frequency of piglets, and the feeding effect is better. This technology can be popularized in the production of weaned pigs in large and medium-sized pig farms. (3) Microbial Fermentation Production A small pond is built in or near the farm in accordance with the requirements of the silo. The solid feed and water are mixed in a certain proportion and placed in it. It is best to inoculate a batch of beneficial microorganisms (Lactobacillus, yeast, etc.) ) Let it ferment. The raw material for fermentation can be roughage or roughage + concentrate. When the feed is taken out, the fermented material is taken out and added with other fine materials, and water is added to prepare the wet feed for the weaned piglets. This method is more suitable for small farms. (3) Points to note when weaning piglets are fed wet (1) The appropriate dry matter concentration of the wet feed should be suitable to further reduce the stimulation of the gastrointestinal tract of weaned piglets by wet feeds. The sow's dry matter concentration is about 19.6%, so when the weaned pigs are weaned, the water-to-feed ratio of the piglets is better when the ratio is about 5:1, and gradually increases as the piglet age increases. (2) Ensuring adequate nutrient supply A good wet feed must provide enough nutrients such as protein, energy, and minerals to the weaned piglet, so the dry feed material used to prepare the wet feed needs a high nutrient concentration. (2) Maintaining the cleanness of wet feeds and chutes When using the fermentation method to prepare wet feeds, the residual feed in the feed chutes after each feed has little effect, because there are still a lot of beneficial microorganisms in the remaining feeds. Mildew. However, when using other wet feeding methods, it is necessary to frequently clean the feed tank to prevent molds and other harmful microorganisms from causing the remaining feed to spoil. If wet feeds are made from leftovers or drizzling, they must be as fresh as possible without spoilage.
