According to a new study from Australia, the cause of abortion and neonatal birth defects in many pregnant women is the lack of a specific molecule in pregnant women, and vitamin B3 supplementation can help solve this problem.

The study was completed by researchers at the Zhang Renqian Heart Institute in Australia. Zhang Renqian is a famous Chinese doctor in Australia. After his death, Australia established this research institution named after him to commemorate him.

The institution's Professor Sally Deng Wudi and others reported in the new issue of the New England Journal of Medicine that about 7.9 million newborns worldwide have different degrees of birth defects every year, and one out of every four pregnant women in Australia. A bit of miscarriage occurs, and the important reason is that many pregnant women lack a molecule called NAD.

Such molecules play an important role in providing energy, repairing genetic material, and cellular communication. Lack of it can hinder the normal development of the fetus in the uterus, leading to miscarriage, or the heart, spine, kidneys and cleft palate in newborns.

Researchers say that vitamin B3, which is widely found in meat and green leafy vegetables, can help produce NAD molecules in the body. However, the survey showed that in the early pregnancy, one-third of pregnant women had low levels of vitamin B3, and in the third trimester, 60% of pregnant women had low levels of vitamin B3.

In this regard, the researchers suggest that women should start to add vitamin B3 before pregnancy, just like the already promoted supplementation of folic acid. Next, the researchers will further develop methods to measure the amount of NAD molecules in the body to help doctors identify which pregnant women are at higher risk and ensure that they have adequate vitamin B3 intake.
