Prevention and control of scallions

Onion thrips are bred by adults and nymphs. They suck the crop juices with sucking mouthparts, and suck on green onion leaves to produce 1-2 mm gray or yellow-brown markings. When they are severe, the stripes are concatenated and the onion leaves are distorted and brown. Affect the growth of green onions.

Onion thrips occur in North China for 8 to 10 generations a year, adults are active, can use the wind to spread, fear of light, mainly to eat sooner or later, mostly in the shade and leafhoppers feeding damage. The suitable temperature for scallion sprouting is 23-28°C and relative humidity is 40%-70%.

Control methods for onion thrips are:

1. Clean the pastoral. Timely removal of dead leaves and surrounding weeds in the field, concentrated burning, reducing the number of insects.

2. Strengthen fertilizer and water management. The dry land mass is heavy. Therefore, water should be properly watered during the high temperature season. High temperature and high humidity are not conducive to its damage.

3. Chemical control. It can be controlled by spraying with 10% imidacloprid 1500 times, 5% acetamiprid 1000 times, 50% phoxim EC 1500 times, 1.8% abamectin 2000 times or 4.5% beta-cypermethrin EC 1000 times. Because the green onion leaves are relatively smooth, appropriate additives or neutral laundry detergent may be added during spraying to enhance the adhesion of the liquid and improve the spraying effect. Note alternate medication.
