Application of Slow and Controlled Release Fertilizer in Spring Tillage

At present, it is during peak season for spring plowing. What should be paid attention to when applying slow- and controlled-release fertilizers?

The first is the choice of fertilizer types. Different controlled release periods mainly correspond to the length of the crop growth period, and different nutrient contents mainly correspond to the amount of fertilizer required for different crops. For example, it is appropriate to choose a controlled release period of three months for corn, and the nutrient content should be selected according to local conditions.

The second is the application period. Controlled-release fertilizers must be basal or top-dressing, that is, applied at the seeding time of the crop or at the seedling growth stage after sowing. If corn can be applied at the time of sowing, it can also be applied before the six leaves of the seedlings, and it should not be used any later.

The third is the amount of application. The amount of application must first consider the nutrient type, content and percentage of coated controlled-release fertilizer. For example, a blended fertilizer contains only 30% of sulfur-coated urea, and the other 70% is a conventional quick-release compound fertilizer. If the application can reduce the 1/3 application amount, the application amount of this fertilizer can only reduce 30% of the coated urea. The amount of 1/3 nitrogen is only about 10% less than conventional fertilizer. At the same time, the application of slow-release fertilizers should be determined based on comprehensive consideration of the target crop yield, soil fertility, and fertilizer nutrient content.

The fourth is the application method. At present, there are problems in the application of slow and controlled release fertilizers in many regions, mainly due to the mixed application of seed fertilizers or the close proximity of seed (root) fertilizers, resulting in the phenomenon of burning roots and burning seedlings; Controlled-release fertilizers are used for spreading and flushing, so that slow-release fertilizers cannot fully exert fertilizer effects. Application of slow and controlled release fertilizer to achieve separation of seed fertilizer, ditch (bar) application of soil, like corn and other general requirements of seed and fertilizer spacing distance of 8-10 cm, applied to the soil depth of about 10 cm.
