China has made important achievements in wild rice genome research

The authoritative magazine “Genome Research” (influencing factor: 10.38) published in the field of genomics published on May 1 published the research papers of Prof. Sun Chuanqing’s research group of the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology of China Agricultural University and the research team of Professor Yang Jinshui’s research group of Fudan University: "Haplotype variation in structure and expression of a gene cluster associated with a quantitative trait locus for improved yield in rice" signifies that China has achieved important results in wild rice genome research. Four years ago, the research team led by Professor Sun Chuanqing discovered high-yield QTLs (quantitative trait loci) on the chromosome 2 of Dongxiang wild rice in Jiangxi province, which is known as the “plant giant panda”. Subsequently, Prof. Sun Chuanqing’s task force and the team of Prof. Yang Jinshui of Fudan University collaborated with each other. With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, after three years of unremitting efforts, the high-yield QTL was finely mapped to the 102.9 kb region. . Further studies have found that this sequence is a haplotype region rich in leucine receptor kinase gene clusters, and that leucine-rich receptor kinases have been demonstrated through haplotype region allele sequences and gene expression analysis. Gene clusters are candidate genes for improved yield. The research results not only established a new technology platform for the analysis of crop agronomic trait genomes, but also provided important new genes with independent intellectual property rights for super rice breeding in China, which has attracted extensive attention from domestic and foreign counterparts.
