What blood lipids to eat

According to a report by the Times of India on December 7th, a new study from the Clinical Research Institute of Nutritional Science and Biotechnology at the Mérieux in France found that corn oil is better than virgin olive oil in lowering cholesterol levels.

In the new study, Dr. Markey and colleagues conducted a lipid-lowering test on olive oil and corn oil for a group of healthy men and women. During the study, participants added 4 tablespoons of corn oil or olive oil to their daily food. Edible oil intake is consistent with the recommendations of the American Dietary Guidelines. The foods eaten by the participants met the normal dietary standards. This randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial evaluated the effect of different edible oils on fasting lipid levels.

It was found that compared with olive oil, corn oil was more effective in lowering total cholesterol (TC) levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C, also known as bad cholesterol) levels. Corn oil can reduce LDL levels by 10.9%, while olive oil can only reduce LDL levels by 3.5%. Corn oil can reduce total cholesterol by 8.2%, while olive oil can only reduce total cholesterol by 1.8%. Researchers suggest that people with high blood lipids may wish to eat more corn oil.
