U.S. Develops the World's Most Scanning MRI Imager The University of Illinois at Chicago announced on December 4 that the high-intensity MRI has been completed and will be put into clinical use. This will be the most powerful medical MRI device in the world.
The researchers report in the Journal of MRI that tests have shown that scanners with a strength of up to 9.4 Tesla are safe for the human body. Unlike current MRIs that use water molecule tracking scans, this high-intensity instrument uses sodium ions. The researchers said that the high-intensity MRI scanner's scanning capabilities will be greatly improved, allowing doctors to detect diseases earlier and better monitor disease progression. Doctors will be able to observe biological processes such as metabolism in the human brain in real time, helping to develop “personalized” treatment options for different patients.
For example, in the future, doctors can use a high-intensity scanner to observe the response of a tumor in a patient's brain to a treatment plan in real time, and adjust the dose of radiotherapy at any time. At present, doctors usually have to wait for several weeks to see if the tumor begins to shrink under the treatment plan.
