Bunny, big industry. If you want to be rich, raise a rabbit.
It's said that "raising three rabbits in the family means you don't need to worry about vinegar or salt; having ten rabbits in your home means new clothes and pants." This saying is now becoming a reality in the Tai'an Rex Rabbit Breeding Base in Shandong Province. The base has helped over 10,000 rabbit-raising households achieve annual incomes exceeding 4,000 yuan, with large-scale households earning more than 30,000 yuan annually, making up 16% of the total.
Located at the foot of Mount Tai, in Dawenkou Town, Mianyue District, along the Wen River, the Shandong Tai'an Rex Rabbit Breeding Base enjoys convenient transportation and a prime location. Established in 1996, it spans 50 mu and is officially recognized by the animal husbandry authorities as a large-scale rabbit breeding base. The facility focuses on the promotion, breeding, and development of various rabbit breeds, including the German and American Rex rabbits. Among them, the French rabbit, originally from France, is known for its fine fur, smooth texture, and even distribution, making it highly favored in the skin market. These rabbits grow rapidly, reaching up to 2.5 kg in 100 days and 6 kg in five months, with an annual sales volume of 1 million and a 100% recovery rate.
Over eight years of development, the base has expanded to more than ten cities and counties, including Jining, Jiaonan, Jiaozhou, Tai'an, and Weifang, supporting 10,000 farmers. It provides year-round supply of rabbits and signs support contracts with farmers, offering a guaranteed purchase price of 10 yuan per kilogram for recycled rabbits, with prices adjusted according to the market to protect farmers' interests.
The base also maintains a stable export market, working with customers in Beijing and Hebei to recycle rabbit skins and meat. With production facilities and a solid market network, it ensures that farmers can raise and sell their products confidently. The base employs 20 technical staff who offer full-service guidance, disease prevention, and support to local farmers.
Rex rabbit fur is in high demand globally, with both international and domestic markets experiencing shortages. Rabbit meat is not only nutritious but also rich in protein, lysine, and easy to digest, while being low in fat and gallic acid. It is referred to as “beauty meat†in Europe and America and is beneficial for preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Breeding rabbits offers a promising market with excellent economic returns. Whether you're looking for a profitable side business or a sustainable agricultural venture, raising rabbits could be the key to financial success.
