Zebra turtle breeding technology

The zebra tortoise, also known as the Taiwan tortoise, is a relatively large-sized species of freshwater turtle. Its carapace is about 20 cm long and about 16 cm wide. The head is small, the upper jaw has fine teeth, the dorsal armor is slightly colored, slightly arched, and the plastron is brown-yellow. Each scutellum has a large stain of ink stains. The bridge is obvious. Connected. Because the head and neck are covered with yellow and black vertical stripes, and the limbs are covered with green stripes, they are called zebra turtles. This turtle is used for food and medicine and is loved by urban and rural residents. However, at present, the number of this turtle is very small and it is far from meeting the market demand. Breeding zebra turtles is a good way for farmers, fishermen, and laid-off workers to get rid of poverty. Now the zebra turtle artificial breeding technology is introduced as follows:

(A) Male and female males are identified as having a longer back carapace and a narrower posterior, with the anal hole located further behind the posterior margin of the plastron. The female has a large back carapace and the arch is more arched. The anal hole is located closer to the posterior margin of the plastron.

(II) Feeding environment and living habits Adult zebra turtles should be kept in pools or larger glass jars with a water level of 20 cm or more (100 g or less of hatchlings with a water level of about 10 cm), and they can also be kept on moist sandy soil. . Mainly animal feed.

(C) Feeding Management Zebra turtle is a kind of adaptable turtle species, but it is sensitive to temperature changes. Under normal feeding conditions, pork, fish, shrimp, etc. may be fed, especially small fish and shrimp, feeding once or twice a day. Each feeding amount may be increased by 2% of the turtle's weight, but it may be increased appropriately, but not suddenly. The improvement should be gradual and gradual, so that it gradually adapts, so as not to cause indigestion. The early spring each year is a crucial period for turtle survival. At this time, the turtle is in a semi-hibernating state. In addition, the temperature difference between day and night is large. When the temperature is 15°C, artificial heating should be applied to keep the temperature above 22°C and then feeding (the ambient temperature cannot be lowered after feeding).

When the water temperature is about 34°C in summer, the turtle eats more food. At this time, the feeding amount should be increased to accelerate the growth of the turtle. If no breeding is required, it can be fed once to three times a week. Normally, the water should be changed frequently (can be performed before feeding), but cold water should not be used to avoid excessive temperature difference and adverse reactions.

Autumn is a crucial period for feeding zebra turtles. As the saying goes, spring culture raises bones in autumn. The amount of nutrients stored in the turtle body directly affects the hibernation of turtles. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the amount of feed in the fall, and vitamin C and multivitamins should be added to the feed to increase the resistance of the turtle. Should also pay attention to changes in the ambient temperature, such as the night temperature around 18 °C during the day should not be fed again, so as to avoid the opposite, causing disease. Good feeding in the fall will help turtles hibernate.

In winter, turtles can be placed on moist sandy soil, or placed in a 10-cm-deep tank to allow them to hibernate. The water temperature must not be lower than 5°C, otherwise the turtle's hibernation safety will be threatened.
