Philippines develops rapid detection of dengue fever

According to reports from the Philippines media on the 16th, researchers in the country successfully invented a new rapid detection technology for dengue virus, which helps to greatly reduce the mortality rate of dengue patients.

The Philippines reported that this new method developed by researchers at the University of Manila in the Philippines requires only the blood of the subject to be tested, nucleic acids are extracted and placed in a mixed culture fluid, and after 1 hour the culture fluid will change color. If the sample is green, it proves that the sample is positive and it contains dengue virus; if orange, it shows that it is negative and there is no virus. Experiments have shown that its detection accuracy can reach 95%, which is equivalent to the traditional polymerase chain reaction detection technology, but the detection time is shorter, the cost is lower, and no special testing equipment is needed.

The head of the study, Raul Desturla, said that the traditional method of detecting dengue fever takes 5 to 7 days to produce results, and patients may have worsened or even died while waiting for results.

Dengue fever is an acute viral infection that is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, and joint pain. Children have a high mortality rate. Dengue fever is divided into common dengue fever and hemorrhagic dengue fever, which has a high mortality rate.
