How to feed the postpartum sow?

The core message: To increase the lactation of sows and the weaning weight of piglets, in addition to the rational use of mixes to strengthen the management of pregnant sows, the feeding of sows is also important. Feeding indicators can directly influence the growth and development of piglets and the next estrus breeding of sows.

1, the previous period (5-16 days after childbirth)

Sow postpartum constitution is weak, digestion is not strong, generally 5 days after delivery to normal diet. Therefore, when feeding the postpartum sow, it is imperative to add less ground and gradually increase the feed supply. Usually 3 to 4 times a day, the amount of feed to the 7th day to reach or slightly higher than the feeding standard of late pregnancy. If the feed is too little, the growth of the piglet is slow; if the feed is too high, the sow's milk will be too thick, which will easily lead to indigestion of the piglet and cause the sow to feed on the top of the sow, which will affect the mid-term feeding.

For individual sows with fewer litters, feed standards can be reduced to below normal levels. If the primiparous sows have poor sensation, but the appetite is normal, the amount of feed can be appropriately increased and 0.4 kg of feed can be fed daily. The general feeding principle is that the feeding amount in this period must be about 0.5 kg more than in the later period of pregnancy.

8-13 days after sow production, feeds can be formulated according to the lactation dietary standards. If you find that piglets are growing slowly or squatting, feed high-protein feeds, such as fishmeal, beancake, etc., in an appropriate amount.

Feeding must be timed and quantified, and feed should be diversified to meet the nutritional requirements of nursing sows. In addition to supplying clean drinking water daily, some high-quality juicy green feed must be fed.

2. Mid-term (14 to 30 days after delivery)

At this time, breeding sows should master the principle of “fed, eat well, eat out”. Sows should be fed once a day for 15 days after delivery to prevent top sows from overfeeding during the day. If the sow has a strong appetite and poor sensation, it can be fed a few days in advance. Instead, it is necessary to postpone feeding as appropriate. Before the piglets start eating, try to make the sows more lactating and let the piglets eat more milk. In this way, the gastrointestinal tract of piglets can develop normally and create conditions for eating and eating.

After the piglet reaches 20 days of age, the amount of activity gradually increases, and the demand for nutrients increases, and the sow's milk yield cannot meet the requirements of the piglets. Therefore, feeding the piglets in time is very important.

3, late (30 to 60 days)

Sows should stop feeding 30 days after giving birth until weaning. This period is the last step in the sow's production process, and it is related not only to the sow's potential for litter size at one year, but also to the growth and development of the piglets. One month after giving birth, the sow should pay attention to protection. In this way, both sows are guaranteed to have a certain degree of moisture, sows are protected from postpartum ejaculation, and the sows are protected on time in order to facilitate future production.
